Headgear

Headgear Instructions:

1. Now that you are wearing your headgear, YOU are playing and important part in straightening your teeth.

2. In putting on your headgear, NEVER BEND IT UP OR DOWN. Always move it from side-to-side. By moving it any other way, you may loosen the bands that hold your headgear.

3. To begin wearing your headgear:

A. The first day wear it for 1 to 2 hours to get accustomed to it.

B. The second day wear it for 2 to 4 hours.

C. The third and fourth day wear it 4 to 6 hours.

D. The fifth day wear it just while you are sleeping. (You may want to sleep with an extra pillow.)

E. Then start wearing your headgear the instructed 10 to 12 hours per day. This will include sleeping hours, after school and homework time.

4. Be consistent in wearing your headgear. It won't do much good to wear it a long period one day and skip it the next. If you leave it off just one night, you will need to wear it many extra nights to catch up and this will extend treatment longer then planned.

5. It will be necessary for you to wear your headgear while you are sleeping. You may also wear it while you are doing homework, reading, watching television, etc.

6. DO NOT wear your headgear when you are involved in any type of physical activity, indoors or outdoors. This could injure you or your teeth.

7. Always remember to bring your headgear with you for each appointment so that it can be checked and adjusted.

8. Please take good care of your headgear at all times. Don't forget to keep it in a case when you are not wearing it.

9. Remember, if any part of your headgear should break or become bent so that it does not fit properly, be sure to call out office immediately for an appointment to have it repaired.

10. It's all up to YOU! The more faithfully you wear your headgear, the sooner your teeth will become straight and your bite corrected.
